First Responders Honored for Saving Life

Last night, area first responders were honored for assisting with saving the life of a child. This incident occurred in January of this year in the Borough of Phoenixville.

Parents noticed their child was not breathing and called 9-1-1. First responders arrived to find the child in cardiac arrest and began to administer CPR and an AED. CPR continued while the child was transported to Phoenixville Hospital and care transferred to the emergency department staff. The hospital staff was able to revive the child. The child was stabilized and later transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The pre-hospital team which worked to help save this child was made up of personnel from Phoenixville Fire Department (65), Phoenixville Police (15), and West End Fire Company (67). The team consisted of:

- Firefighter/EMT Carl Daywalt (65)
- Officer Brad Dobry (15)
- Firefighter/EMT Kyle McClure (65)
- Firefighter Bryan Meadows (65)
- Lieutenant Jason Motter (67)
- Firefighter/EMT William Murphy (67)
- Firefighter/EMT Jonathan Shepsko (67)
- Lieutenant Stacey Steinmetz (67)

This group of first responders was honored with a Clinical Save Commendation by the Chester County EMS Council at their annual awards banquet in Kennett Square.

The life of this child was saved due to an observant family and the diligent training and work of the dispatchers, responders and hospital staff.
