Michael 'Mike' Schmit has successfully completed Essentials of Firefighting (Firefighter 1) training at the Chester County Department of Emergency Services - Fire Academy. Mike recently graduated from the fire academy alongside 20 other recruits representing various fire companies.

Firefighter 1 is an almost 200-hour entry-level national certification course our firefighters must complete before they may fight fire inside a burning structure. In addition to learning the science and behavior of fire and various methods of fire suppression, recruits are also certified in hazardous materials operations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.

Mike moved to the Phoenixville area in the summer of 2022 when he began working as a paramedic in Chester County. He joined our department as a volunteer in the fall of 2024. Congratulations, Mike, and thank you for choosing to serve your community!

Your Phoenixville Fire Department is a 'combination' department which means our team is a mix of career and volunteer firefighters. We are always looking for new volunteers to serve as firefighters, fire police, medical or administration. Message us if you are interested and have the time to commit to your community.
