| Volunteer members Samir Khan and Kayla St. Onge have successfully completed the Essentials of Firefighting (Firefighter I) training at the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Fire Academy. Samir and Kayla recently graduated alongside 35 other recruits representing various fire companies. Firefighter I is a nearly 200-hour entry-level national certification course. Our firefighters must complete this training before they can engage in interior firefighting operations. In addition to learning fire science, behavior, and various suppression methods, recruits also earn certifications in the Incident Command System (ICS), hazardous materials operations, CPR, and first aid. Both of these new graduates joined our department during the second half of last year, working diligently to complete this intensive academy program during nights and weekends. Samir joined our department shortly after graduating from Cornell University. A Philadelphia native, he first came to the area as a student at The Hill School in Pottstown and is proud to also call Phoenixville home. Kayla grew up in Bristol, CT, and moved to Phoenixville in 2022. She resides locally with her boyfriend and works full-time in real estate in King of Prussia. Congratulations, Samir and Kayla, and thank you for your dedication to protecting and serving our community! Your Phoenixville Fire Department is a "combination" department, meaning our team is a mix of career and volunteer firefighters. We are always looking for new volunteers to serve as firefighters, fire police, or administrative support. Message us today if you are ready to make a difference and have the time to commit to your community. |
