Did you know your Phoenixville Fire Department is staffed by a combination of volunteers and career staff. Contact us if you have the desire to serve your community.

Our volunteers and career staff are dedicated to providing high quality fire, rescue and medical support services to the Borough of Phoenixville and surrounding communities. We are always looking for additional help from our community to expand this team.

The Chester County Public Safety Training Center and other area training facilities offer various fire, rescue and EMS courses. The Department also holds weekly in-house training drills. Training is held mostly on nights and weekends.

Junior Firefighter

Most of our current volunteer firefighters began as junior firefighters, some over 40 years ago. In fact, many of our fire officers over the years began as junior firefighters in Phoenixville or surrounding areas. Several decided on life-long careers that directly related to their experience while a teenager, such as career firefighters, EMTs, fire marshals, and even a flight nurse on an aeromedical helicopter.

Are you a Teenager or Parent of a Teenager looking for:

  • Something that may provide a boost to a resume?
  • Something that may be a springboard to a career?
  • Additional positive social interaction?
  • An activity that will provide discipline and life experiences.

Our junior firefighter program allows teenagers age 16 & 17 to become a volunteer firefighter in a learning role. Junior firefighters can do many of the things firefighters do, with some limitations for additional safety and well-being as outlined by Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws. Junior firefighters may begin attending fire academy classes to become certified as a firefighter or EMT. They may also respond on emergency calls, participate with in-house training, attend meetings, serve on committees and help keep the firehouse and fire trucks ready for action.

  • At least 16 years of age

  • Interview with our Membership/Nominations Committee
  • We will submit a criminal background inquiry
  • You must submit a Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance (directions will be provided)
